5 Common Winter Beauty Concerns

Dry and flaky skin.

This skin condition is very common. As the weather begins to become dry so does our skin. When our skin is dry it can become flaky. There are two things you can do right away to help your skin if this happens. First, you need to exfoliate. Do this after you have cleansed your skin. Use a mild exfoliant. We love the Brightening Exfoliating Powder from Image Skin Care. It combines a protein enriched coconut powder with a pumpkin enzyme. The enzyme will slough off the dead skin, while the coconut milk powder exfoliates and strengthens your skin with protein peptides. After you exfoliate it is very important to hydrate your skin. When you hydrate after the exfoliation step, your skin will better absorb the product. Try to find a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid holds 1,000 times its weight in water. What that means for your skin is better hydration. When your skin is hydrated it will look healthy, glowing and supple. Also, when your skin is hydrated your fine lines and wrinkles will appear less visible. Don’t we love that!

Red or ruddy skin.

Dry and windy weather can leave your skin looking pink, red or flushed. If you are noticing this, you will want to use a serum with vitamin E. Serums can be priced on the higher side, but that’s because they are a very concentrated product. A little goes a long way and they can have some great results. Vitamin E is a wonderful antioxidant that is very healing. If your skin is red and irritated from the weather, the vitamin E will start to heal you skin. Also, you can add an essential oil like lavender into your serum as well. Lavender can be very calming to your skin. Depending on the brand you get they can be very strong. So like your serums, a little goes a long way.

Dark circles under your eyes.

Winter time can be a very busy and stressful time. When we are busy and stressed out we can have trouble sleeping. Sleep is very important to your skin. When we lack sleep we can quickly begin to see dark circles under our eyes. Dark circles can be alleviated by using an eye cream with vitamin K. Lack of sleep tends to cause the blood vessels under the thin skin of the eyes to dilate, creating a dark color. Vitamin K helps increase blood circulation and reduce the dark color.

Dry hair.

If dry winter weather can dry out your skin, it can do the same to your hair. Dry weather can pull the moisture out of your hair. During the cold winter season make sure you’re using a very hydrating deep conditioner or hair mask. Don’t vigorously shampoo your hair. The friction movement can rough up your cuticles and leave your hair dry and frizzy. After washing gently, follow up with a moisturizing hair mask. You can also use an oil therapy on your locks post conditioner. Put it on damp hair and leave it in. It’s important not to forget to give your tresses a little TLC in the winter.

Dry hands and nails

Dry hands and nails are a common concern that we hear from our manicurist clients. There are some quick and easy things you can do to alleviate this problem. Our hands are always on display, so we want to make sure we take care of them. First and foremost, invest in a high quality cuticle oil. Our cuticles take a big hit in the colder season. A cuticle oil can be used daily. Use a moisture rich hand cream during the day, to keep them soft and hydrated. If you are out in the mornings make sure to wear warm gloves to hold heat in. This will keep your blood circulating and your hands warm.
